To our Loyal Cat-a-holic Supporters

WE ARE NO LONGER AT OUR PREMISES IN PARKWOOD, THE HOUSE HAS BEEN DEMOLISHED AND TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT. ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN EXTREMELY STRESSFUL WE HAVE MOVED THE CATS SAFELY TO THEIR NEW HOME IN MOUNTAINVIEW.

FOR BOARDING OR ADULT CAT ADOPTION CALL :MERIEN 071 6339488 OR ARI 082 2665850.

We'd first of all like to say A BIG THANK-YOU to all of you have donated so generously to help with our move!!!
Our number one priority at the onset of the move was to move to all the cats SAFELY to a secure escape proof environment with minimal stress to all 126 cats.

I'm happy to say we were successful! One cat managed to escape en route just outside the new enclosure but is still with us and living in the garden, teasing all her friends that she is free and they're still in runs. The cats have settled beautifully and have more comfort and space than they ever had before. The problem we have at the moment is that although we have accommodated all our existing cats , the property as well as being a residence is also set high up on a mountain and although its lovely for the cats its totally inaccessible to cars and therefore we can't have the public coming there.

We have been forced to set up a small hospital at our home, in the Norwood area; we have had to accommodate our geriatric and disabled cats there as well as having a small hospital for isolating sick kitties. We are busy building a lovely hotel ( without which we wouldn't be able to feed the resident cats) at these premises as well. The bottom line is that we simply have no room to take in new animals until we solve or space and financial problems. We've taken on new kittens needing help through our wonderful Fosterer's and they have been so helpful by rehoming the kittens from their homes but we have to be very careful of taking in kittens that we cannot rehome as we will inevitably end up having to take care of them for the rest of their lives.

Although we have successfully built new , big runs for our feral cats, we are still unfortunately facing bankruptcy, we have borrowed heavily from family and friends. We are currently trying every which way to stay afloat; the first being, getting our cat boarding built and running. We will be putting more of our resident cats up for virtual adoption. (A huge thank- you to those of you who have supported this successful endeavor, please could all our current virtual adopters please contact me on merien@kittyshelter.co.za , to confirm your willingness to continue virtually adopting and also in some cases we have rehomed the cats. We were delighted to rehome around 30 resident cats just before we moved!!!

We felt we owed it to our fellow cat lovers and loyal supporters to explain exactly what has happened to our Organisation ; the animals, the people and the premises.

A Garden for our Cats

30 July 2014

Hello cat lovers and precious supporters, an update on what's happening at Cataholics - Kitty Shelter.

Unfortunately the cats that have been living on our owners property have had to be relocated to our Shelter in Rosebank. These cats have had an enormous garden to enjoy., which is ideal for feral cats which most of them are. We need to replicate this as much as possible on our tiny premises. We therefore need to establish a garden for them, our only option is to convert our parking area into a lovely garden for our kitties, we thought our clients wouldn't mind parking on the road in order to make the cats happy.

Once again we are reaching out to the animal lovers for help.

We desperately need the following:

  • Plants, bushes , ground cover, seedlings
  • Compost
  • Grass
  • Flagstones
  • Wooden fencing ( at least 1.8 m)
  • Pot plants any garden equipment
  • The advise and help of a landscaper or gardening service would be wonderful, as we don't know a thing about gardening!
  • White paint, brushes, rollers etc.
  • We obviously always appreciate a cash donation

A Big Announcement

It is with great regret that we have to announce we will be closing down our Dog Boarding facilities, because we are overrun with cats and kittens at the moment.

We plan to enclose the existing dog boarding and utilise it for the 'overflow' of kitties, both feral and those with special needs.

We do however desperately need sponsorship to carry out the building work as well as developing a garden for them.

Our Address: 45 Newport Rd, Parkwood.

A Big Thank You

The Kitty Shelter / Cat-a-holics,  would like to send out a big, purry THANKS!!! To all the wonderful animal lovers who helped us get out of the financial mess we were in earlier this year.

We were overwhelmed with food and blanket donations and although we still aren’t ‘out of the woods’ financially, at least we didn’t have to close our doors.

To help overcome our overwhelming expenses we are now running a small, Pet store from the Shelter, selling the wonderful Acana and Orijen Pet foods.

Orijen was voted no 1 pet food of the year, By The G.R.I., a Washington independent, non-profit government organization. They are both Biologically appropriate foods and rate high on the pet food ratings websites,
www.petfoodratings.org or www.petsumerreport.com . We also sell a wide range of pet beds, scratch posts, toys etc.

Remember ALL PROCEEDS GO 100% TO OUT WELFARE ANIMALS!!!
You can also help by adopting a cat, kitten (kitten season starts now) or dog or even virtually adopting.

Our office and Shop hours are
Weekdays 9:00am – 17:00pm

Saturday/Sunday 9:00am – 12:00pm

Our Address: 45 Newport Rd, Parkwood.

THE STORY OF TIGGY, THEN & NOW.

21 April 2011

Tiggy (before) at 6 weeks, part of the Persian rescue, where only 3 kittens came to us in a terrible state, 14 others weren't so lucky and died before we could help. 2 adults are still up for adoption.

Tiggy (after) at 6 months, this is what makes our jobs worthwhile, what a beauty he's turned out to be. He is so happy in his wonderful home, if only all the stories could have such a happy ending.
